Before Presenting an Apostille in Costa Rica
Costa Rica participates in the Hague Apostille Convention, so qualifying Florida documents generally do not need additional legalization through a Costa Rican embassy or consulate after receiving an apostille.
The apostille authenticates the signature or official seal on the document, but it does not translate its contents. Because Spanish is the official language of Costa Rica, the government agency, attorney, university, bank, or other institution receiving the document may request a Spanish translation. We provide certified translations from
English to Spanish and from Spanish to English when needed.
It is also important to ask the receiving institution whether the document must have been issued recently. An apostille itself does not normally expire, but some Costa Rican authorities may establish their own recency requirements for birth certificates, marriage certificates, background checks, financial records, or other supporting documents.
After processing, we can arrange FedEx delivery to addresses throughout Costa Rica, including San José, Alajuela, Heredia, Cartago, Liberia, Limón, and other serviceable locations. International shipping rates and delivery times vary by destination and service selected, and tracking information is provided after shipment.
